Jan 27: Uesaka Barbell Australia QLD Club Challenge and League Round 1


The Uesaka Barbell Australia QLD Club Challenge is open to all QWA Affiliated Clubs and consists of three competition Rounds. The Rounds are Club competitions held within each of the participating clubs on the schedule dates, and Milton Weightlifting Club’s first round is scheduled for this Saturday, Jan 27. Lifters may participate in Club competitions conducted at another Club’s venue and still have their results included under their own Club’s name.

We can win this again!

Milton Weightlifting Club won this event (in 2017, it was known as the JME Club Challenge) beating every other weightlifting club in QLD!  That’s impressive!  Let’s do it again! Uesaka Barbell Australia will supply a 10kg Ueasaka bar and Uesaka technique discs for each of the Clubs that finish in the top 6.   Just log on to your personal QWA account at the QWA site and register yourself for the comp before midnight on Sunday Jan 21 and you’re good to go!

Help needed!

We will have two sessions next week:  The first session (women) is at 9:30am (weigh-in from 7:30am to 8:30am) and the second session (men) is at 11:30am (weigh-in from 09:30am to 10:30am).  We will need help to run this comp so please get in contact with Tim or Fi and let us know what sessions you can help with.  We need people for:

  1. Referees. 3 per session, so 6 in total.
  2. Loaders. 2 per session, so 4 in total.
  3. General helpers.  2 per session, so 4 in total.
  4. Computer operator. 1 per session, so 2 in total.

Please let Tim or Fi know what you can do and we’ll see you next week for the first round’s lifting!

 


Feb 22: The 2018 CrossFit Open


The CrossFit Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season and every year, hundreds of thousands of athletes come together to compete in this worldwide, on-line competition. Anyone aged 14 or older can compete.

This year, the CrossFit Open runs for 5 weeks from February 22 to March 26:

  • Week 1 – Feb. 22-26
  • Week 2 – March 1-5
  • Week 3 – March 8-12
  • Week 4 – March 15-19
  • Week 5 – March 22-26

How’s it all work?

Each week, the workout will be released on Friday at 11am via a live stream on YouTube, and we’ll also be posting each week’s workout on Facebook and on the MolyFit.com web site. To ensure the Open is an all-inclusive event two versions of each workout are offered each week: scaled and Rx’d.

Athletes will complete each workout with a judge (generally Dayn, or another member of Milton CrossFit) who ensures CrossFit movement standards are met and repetitions are counted correctly. Athletes have four days to complete the week’s workout and yes, if you want to try to improve on your score, you can complete the week’s workout more than once!

Each athlete must submit their score by 11am on the Tuesday following the previous week’s workout. Once athletes have submitted their score they can compare their results to others worldwide, regionally, by age or within their own gyms. At the end of the five weeks, the fittest from each region can move on to the next stage of the CrossFit Games season: Regionals!

Upcoming preparation and WODs

Everyone at Milton CrossFit is encouraged to take part in this year’s CrossFit Open, and Dayn will be structuring the upcoming WODs to help you prepare for this fun and challenging event . Our WODs will continue to include strength programs for the foundational weightlifting movements (squats, deadlifts, presses and Olympic lifts) but the primary focus will be to improve athlete conditioning.

This will be achieved by repeating some of the previous Open workouts, modifying the Open workouts for different training stimuli, and providing as many combinations of the movements as possible in new workouts over the weeks leading up to the Open.

You can register for the CrossFit Open now. All you have to do for now is sign up on the official CrossFit games site and Dayn will start scheduling your WODs to get prepared. Once the Open starts, you’ll be invited to participate in the workout each Saturday as a group, and to record your week’s score on the CrossFit site. And at the end of the Open, we will organise a celebratory function planned for all members to let their hair down and celebrate their achievements.
